My year in review
What
a crazy year this has been. I started January in a completely different place...
literally. By May I had moved from Des Moines, Washington to Tacoma to be with
my love, and by June he was finally ready (after nearly 3 years of dating) to
take the Big Step. Then marriage, then the push to finish remodeling the condo
in time to capitalize on the insanely inflated Seattle housing market... Then,
just as we finally got a buyer 2 months later, my mother suffers a fatal heart
attack at 66. Just ten days before I was scheduled for my hysterectomy, too.
Thankfully the real estate world has joined the 21st century and they made it
extremely easy to sell the condo. I didn't have to leave my house even once! All
signatures could be made electronically until the very end, when the escrow
company sent someone out to have me sign the final papers. (Ironically, an
old friend of mine bought my condo! But since I had moved, he couldn't reach me
by phone and was forced to go thru an RE agent as if he was a stranger. Even
more ironically, he made the offer the day my contract with the realtor was due
to be renewed. So I spent thousands of dollars on RE commissions
unnecessarily... but looking at the bigger picture, my mother had just died so
my head really wasn't in the right space to be dealing with all that legal stuff
on my own. And of course selling to a friend, especially someone I once briefly
dated, could have gotten pretty dicey. So in the end, I guess, it all worked out
as it was supposed to.)
